it’s been called the “defining moment”
some have called it “recognition of the other”
and even more eloquently still, ansel adams described
that he wanted his photo’s to hold a message
“…equivalent to what I saw and felt, built up from within, rather than from without, thus immortalizing an effervescent, disappearing moment.”
He talked about how it allowed him to “understand and become part of something larger” and how he wanted his photos to “demonstrate the communion between nature and self.” What stood out the most are his words written to his lover Virginia, about how he was “arrested by the light, every minute detail being a transcendental experience.”
For me, I find it a way to hold onto that still and quiet voice of the heart,
the playful child that is curious and in awe and fascination of the world around us… it is then, I am alive and able to capture the everyday magic.
